(ST. GEORGE, UT – JULY 22, 2021) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to Friends of Switchpoint to be used towards financing a commercial refrigerator and freezer for their new 24/7 childcare facility. This donation will help to support childcare facilities for disadvantaged parents within the community working non-traditional hours.

“Childcare outside traditional hours has become a necessity for clients to be able to take better-paying shift work,” said Carol Hollowell, executive director for Friends of Switchpoint. “This donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation will enable us to offer safe and secure childcare for so many hardworking parents, making it one less thing for them to worry about.”

Currently in Washington County, there is zero access to evening and overnight childcare but research shows that 37% of the workforce is required to work outside traditional hours. Childcare outside traditional hours has become a necessity for Friends of Switchpoint clients, especially with the increased need during COVID-19.

“The ability to end homelessness can only be achieved when individuals have the tools they need to work and be self-reliant,” said Ben Wiseman, senior vice president of member service-Mountain West Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It is an honor to support Friends of Switchpoint to provide a helping hand to parents working to provide for their families.”

Opened in 2014, Friends at Switchpoint partners with over 20 different non-profits, civic groups, and government programs to provide resources and training for community members experiencing homelessness and poverty in the Washington County area.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
