LONE TREE, CO (July 20, 2021) — Canvas Foundation, the charitable arm of Canvas Credit Union, raised over $40,000 in net proceeds during their inaugural golf tournament to offer support for Title I schools across the Front Range. The highly anticipated event took place early June, at the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch. The golf tournament brought various local credit unions, businesses, and the community together for a day on the green to celebrate this great cause.

Through sponsorships, donations, and other fundraising efforts, Canvas continues to support Title I schools along the Front Range. Title I schools are classified as such due to the number of low-income/underprivileged students who may need additional support to meet academic standards. These schools provide their students with extra instructional support and aid. Money raised for Title I schools goes toward funding educational programs and resources that aid low-income families and ensure all students can meet statewide academic standards.

Canvas has been committed to tackling financial burdens for Title I schools in Aurora the past couple of years by minimizing, or even erasing, student meal debt. Though a student will never be denied food if they cannot pay for their lunch in Colorado public schools, the debt can pile up and become burdensome for families and schools. Canvas donated $10,000 as a pandemic relief contribution to the Aurora Public Schools Foundation in 2020, and made a holiday donation of $60,000 to help support all 18 Title I schools in the Aurora Public School System in 2019. Now, raising over $40,000 with the great support of community partners, Canvas will continue to donate these funds to Title I schools to ensure no student gets left behind.

Two of Canvas Credit Union’s vision pillars include being leaders in the communities they serve and being known for their heart, and supporting schools and families are integral parts of these pillars. The cooperative spirit of credit unions was present as Canvas teamed with business partners and other credit unions, coming together for the common goal of improving Colorado communities.

Sponsors included neighboring credit unions such as:

“Giving back to our communities in collaboration with our business partners and other credit unions truly speaks to who we are,” shared Steve Ferrero, Chief Community Engagement Officer at Canvas Credit Union. “Thanks to the efforts of our tournament’s planning committee, and the great support of our community partners, we were able to secure over $40,000 in net proceeds to directly benefit local schools and families. This event was extra special because it brought together local credit unions and business partners as both sponsors and participants. At Canvas, we believe that collaboration is one of the greatest gifts of the credit union movement, and we’re already looking forward to planning next year’s event!”
