LANSING — As part of its community outreach and giving efforts, CASE Credit Union recently presented The Firecracker Foundation with a check for $5,158. The funds were raised by credit union employees throughout the first quarter of 2021.

The Firecracker Foundation provides holistic healing services to youth and families impacted by sexual violence throughout the Greater Lansing region by offering high-quality, trauma-informed mental health services facilitated by trained professionals. Through donation efforts throughout the community, the nonprofit was able to provide 175 children with services in 2020.

“The credit union philosophy is ‘People helping people,’ and at CASE we strive to assist in our community wherever it is needed,” said Jeffrey Benson, president and CEO of CASE Credit Union. “Our employees have a great passion for giving back to our community, and seeing how much our donation impacts each charity is an amazing feeling. Having the credit union’s roots in education, the health, safety and development of children is particularly close to our hearts at CASE — and the work The Firecracker Foundations does is of infinite value.”

In the last quarter of every year, the employee-based Community Activity Team at CASE Credit Union sends out an email for staff to nominate their favorite charities for the coming year. The team compiles all the charities, and staff can vote for their top four. Every quarter, CASE Credit Union raises funds for one of the four charities selected. Funds for The Firecracker Foundation were raised from Jan. 1 through March 31.

In a follow-up email sent to CASE Credit Union from The Firecracker Foundation, the nonprofit expressed its gratitude for the support: “As community members transition back into their schools and workplaces, we expect an increase in the reports of child abuse and requests for support. Your donation will help build our capacity to offer healing services to children and families in need.”
