CaptureIt handles liquid assets, but there is no large body of water on the parking lot of a financial institution where a growing family of ducks has taken up residence. The ducks have made a home where locals put their nest eggs---at a Salt Lake Valley credit union. "I think it's fantastic," said credit union member Jim O'Malley, who has spotted the ducks several times over the past month. "I just hope they make it." Wednesday, papa duck spent most of the afternoon on the sidewalk, leading up to the front door. He served as sentinel for mama duck, and a nest full of eggs---8 by our count---in nearby reeds. "They're like our neighborhood pets," Chelsey Watson, manager of the financial institution said with a laugh. Staff at the credit union make sure the ducks have water, and food---spreading cereal on the sidewalk. Others have also contributed. It's said patrons ask, 'How are our ducks?' "Everyone checks on them," said Watson. "It quacked at me when I went inside," said a 6 year old boy named Cobi, who was at the credit union with his aunt. "I saw it move." Animal Control was called soon after the ducks appeared more than a month ago. But the credit union said it was told, if the ducks are comfortable, don't move them. Interest rates may still be low, but not when it comes to the credit union fowl that will never soar. Brandice Bedford, a credit union employee, said everyday someone comes in and refers to the AFLAC insurance company duck. An Internet search showed duck eggs can take roughly a month to hatch, which could mean little ducklings any day now.
