Advantage One Credit Union Awards $7,500 in Scholarships

Brownstown, MI—May 2021— Advantage One Credit Union is committed to supporting the continuing education of local students. To further the development of these future leaders, Advantage One has awarded three students $2,500 scholarships to use toward college costs. Recipients were selected based on an essay competition and academic accomplishments. Keeping with the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” extra consideration was given for volunteer/community involvement.
Adult Enrichment Scholarship Winner – Heather Blake
Heather is a neonatal nurse who received her bachelor’s from Eastern Michigan University. She is the charge nurse on her unit and is responsible for training new employees. Heather is currently enrolled in a master’s program at Wayne State University, where she is studying to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. In addition to her work, Heather is a volunteer at Caring for Kids, a non-profit out of Dearborn who helps families in needs with different forms of therapy.
James Wood Scholarship (for AOCU members only) Winner – Angelina Gaglio
Angelina is an AOCU member and Woodhaven HS senior. She is a member of DECA, NHS, Student Council and Yearbook. Angelina volunteers at non-profits such as Kids Against Hunger and is a youth leader at her church, where she helped feed local first responders during the start of the pandemic. Angelina will be attending Northwood University in the fall to study Entrepreneurship/Digital Media Marketing.
Ronald Stamper Scholarship Winner – Payton Bucki
Payton is an Airport HS senior and the 2021 Valedictorian. She is a member of DECA, Interact Club, National Honor Society and more. Payton is currently dual enrolled at Monroe County Community College and will be attending UM Ann Arbor in the fall to study Biology. Payton is a volunteer with Mimi’s Mission and helps tutor children with Autism, among many other volunteer endeavors.
