Saint Paul, Minnesota – At City & County Credit Union, we put purpose over profit and strive to empower our community to do more. Giving back to local non-profits and small businesses in our community is just one of many ways we actively live out this commitment – specifically through the Making the Greater Good Even Greater contest.

Making the Greater Good Even Greater is a voting contest that rewards local small businesses and non-profits with a $2,000 donation for doing good things in the community. To participate in the contest, local businesses and non-profits are nominated by City & County members and the community at large. Once organizations accept their nomination, a Facebook voting contest is held to determine the winning non-profit and small business.

For the Spring 2021 Greater Good contest, Ruby’s Pantry, non-profit winner, and Little Gosling’s Daycare, small business winner, each took home $2,000 for receiving the most votes.

“We love celebrating organizations making a difference in our community,” said Bailey Germain, Creative Marketing & Brand Manager. Germain added, “With our Making the Greater Good Even Greater contest, we are able to not only award a winning donation, but also raise awareness for the multiple organizations in our community making an impact. Our Spring 2021 winners truly represent & share the same mission that City & County Credit Union is committed to– empowering you to do more.”

During the Spring 2021 Making the Greater Good Even Greater contest, 8 small businesses and 40 non-profits competed and brought in over 10,000 total votes on City & County Credit Union’s Facebook page.

About the Winning Organizations

Ruby’s Pantry, Non-Profit Greater Good Winner

Founded in 2003 on the idea that people are worth more than things, Ruby’s Pantry serves families of all denominations and background in rural areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Ruby’s Pantry partners with a local faith community or civic organization to host Pop-Up Pantry distributions once a month at one of 75 designated Pop-Up Pantry sites. This food bank is difference from a food shelf, which is in a static location, in that it reaches out to guests and meets them where they live. Currently, over 11,000 volunteers are involved monthly at Pop-Up Pantry sites donating over 125,000 hours annually.

“Thank you so much for sponsoring the Greater Good contest. It is our honor to be this year’s winner,” stated Kori Schmidt,

Administrative Assistant at Ruby’s Pantry. Schmidt added, “The proceeds from winning the Greater Good contest will be used to purchase fuel for our trucks. The funds will provide enough fuel to deliver food bundles to 15 of our distribution locations. Thousands of families will be positively impacted thanks to the Greater Good contest.”

Little Gosling’s Daycare, Small Business Greater Good Winner

Little Gosling’s Daycare provides high quality, developmentally appropriate childcare, and early childhood education for children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old. Their program is designed to incorporate a balanced learning approach that focuses on individual children’s growth in order to be prepared for kindergarten. As an organization, their goal is to build a relationship with each family so that they can provide the best early childhood education to the children.

Stacy Gosselin, owner of Little Gosling’s Daycare, explained, “I plan to utilize the money to make some upgrades to my business for both the building and materials used by the children.” Some of the items that Gosselin plans to purchase are a camera security system, an upgraded playset for the backyard, and new art materials and toys. Gosselin added, “Making the Greater Good Even Greater will have a great impact on our daycare and our ability to provide the best childcare and learning opportunities for the children that I serve.”
