Harrisburg, PA (April 20, 2021) – Last June, PSECU, Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union, ran a “You Can Make a Difference” tree planting campaign, encouraging its members to switch from paper to electronic banking statements. For every ten accounts that enrolled in the service during the month, PSECU committed to plant one tree. Enroll they did, with 3,140 members making the switch.

“Once again, PSECU’s member-owners have taken action to help make a positive impact on our community,” said PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “With each paper statement averaging four pages each, these 3,140 e-Statement conversions will save more than 150,000 sheets of paper a year. To put it into perspective, that’s a stack of paper around 83 feet tall!”

Nearly a year after the You Can Make a Difference campaign, during prime planting season and just in time to celebrate Earth Day, those trees – 314 in total – are now set to be put into the ground at Willow Mill Park in Mechanicsburg, PA, thanks to a collaborative effort between the credit union and Silver Spring Township Parks and Recreation facilitated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

“We’re grateful for the partnership with PSECU and DCNR as we come together for the betterment of our parks and community,” said Silver Spring Township Chairman Carl Machamer.  “We’re thrilled to be the recipient of the PSECU campaign and appreciative of our many volunteers!”

On April 24, volunteers will come together to plant the PSECU-donated trees on the grounds of the 18-acre municipal park starting at 9 a.m. DCNR recommended several tree varieties be planted to help reduce the impact of diseases and pests. The mix, sourced from Octoraro Native Plant Nursery, will likely include oak, maple, sycamore, redbud, dogwood, and other deciduous trees.

Commemorating Earth Day 2021, PSECU recently launched a new Bank Green initiative to urge its members to take advantage of the environmentally friendly digital tools and services it offers, like digital banking, bill payer service, and mobile deposit, among others.

“If you’re not a member yet, visit psecu.com to learn more about the many benefits we offer, and join us today,” Rudolph added. “Together, we can bank green to help our environment!”
