VSECU Helping to Raise Funds for Vermont Foodbank
April 7, 2021
MONTPELIER, VT – This summer, join the 2021 Point to Point, powered by VSECU, to get outside, have fun, and support a good cause that helps Vermonters in need.
The Point to Point, powered by VSECU, is a cycling and running event to raise funds and awareness for the Vermont Foodbank and support their mission to fight hunger in Vermont. One in three Vermonters is not sure where their next meal is coming from, and the Vermont Foodbank is distributing twice as much food as before the pandemic. This is the 20th year of the Point to Point, which has raised nearly $2 million and provided more than 3.3 million meals to Vermonters in need.
The goal for 2021 is to raise $200,000 and provide over 335,000 meals in the fight against hunger. All funds raised will go directly to help Vermonters in need.
Registration is $20, and all participants will receive an event t-shirt, gift bag, and have a chance to win fundraising and contest prizes.
“VSECU’s community giving focuses on meeting the essential needs of our communities, and we adopted this event in 2018 as part of our mission to improve the quality of life for all Vermonters,” said Simeon Chapin, community impact officer at VSECU. “Although we had looked forward to hosting a safe, in-person festival at the Montpelier State House, we are excited to build on last year’s successful virtual event, which raised a record $153,820 for the Vermont Foodbank.”
“With a drastic increase in the number of people struggling with food insecurity because of the pandemic, we are facing a truly unprecedented time,” says Vermont Foodbank CEO John Sayles. “Fortunately, our community is stepping up in extraordinary ways to show that together we can fight hunger and take care of those in need. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of partners like VSECU and all of the participants of the Point to Point in helping ensure that everyone has access to the food they need to thrive during these challenging times.”
This year’s event will be a hybrid virtual and in-person event. Point to Point participants can choose from a variety of cycling and running distances, including century (110 miles), metric-century (66 miles), and 25-mile road rides; a 40-mile gravel ride; and half-marathon, five-kilometer, and one-mile runs. Riders and runners can follow the routes provided by the Point to Point or pick their own course to ride or run virtually. Participants will also be safely welcomed to the State House Lawn on Saturday, August 7, for fundraising awards and additional registration benefits.
The 2021 Point to Point, powered by VSECU, is presented thanks to the support of the event’s sponsors: Harpoon Brewery, The Point FM, Cabot Creamery, Hanover Food Co-Op, Hunger Mountain Co-Op, FISERV, VT Sports magazine, WCAX, Minute Man Press, Artisan Coffee, Pure Energy Apothecary, Ceres Natural Remedies, and Trtap Organic Sparkling Tree Water.
