Credit Unions' Golf Outing Supports Food Pantries
August 1, 2013
About 144 golfers took part in the 12th annual Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions charity golf outing, which aims to raise $30,000 for Post-Crescent Medias Stock the Shelves Do It! Community Challenge. The campaign raises money to benefit local food pantries.
"We have good community support from a number of companies," said Chip Coenen, director of business development at Capital Credit Union, who helped organize this years golf outing at Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton.
Supporting local food pantries was the primary reason Stephanie Roth headed out to the green Monday.
"Im not a good golfer," said Roth, who was part of a four member, co-ed team. "But Im out here to support the charities that are involved."
Among the charities to benefit from the event is St. Joseph Food Program in Menasha, which has been in existence since 1982 and distributes 30 tons of food and nonperishable items to families each week.
"(The golf outing) is a great event. We dont expect it all of the time, but we sure are appreciative of the credit unions that put it on," said Lou Blasczyk, a member of the food pantrys board who also participated in the golf outing Monday. "Its a great addition to our financial budget."
Though the amount raised at this years outing was not available, Danielle Kroening, the events co-chair, is confident the event will meet its fundraising objective up $5,000 from last years goal.
William Wuske from CitizensFirst Credit Union said the event plays a critical role in helping meet the communitys needs.
"There is a great need for individuals in the community to help others that are less fortunate within the community," Wuske said.
