(SAN ANTONIO, TX – JANUARY 28, 2021) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping the American Heart Association (AHA) provide fresh food boxes to 50 families in need through a $5,000 donation. This comes at a critical time, when the COVID-19 pandemic has increased food insecurity and financial stress, two factors that directly affect heart health.

The healthy food boxes will be distributed across urban areas where it is difficult to buy affordable or fresh, good-quality food. Boxes will be filled with produce as well as non-perishables and pantry staples. To further promote heart health, the boxes will include healthy recipes and blood pressure prescription savings cards, as well as information on stress management, at-home physical activity, and blood pressure.

“We are so grateful to the Security Service Charitable Foundation for joining the fight to combat heart disease,” said Caitlin Cox, senior corporate market director for the American Heart Association. “Through its generosity, we are providing tangible resources and information to the people who need it most.”

Currently, the AHA is working throughout San Antonio to improve health and wellness by addressing food insecurity and food access. In its 96-year history, the organization has paved the way for cardiovascular health and disease and stroke research. The organization has assisted millions through donations to cutting-edge research and community programs and it has a network of more than 33 million volunteers and supporters worldwide.

“Security Service is honored to support the American Heart Association in its mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Working together, we have a broader and deeper reach, making lives heart healthy one at a time.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
