Mainstreet FCU Disburses $46,000 to Local Health and Education Workers
December 23, 2020
Lenexa, KS - Mainstreet Federal Credit Union started as a teacher’s credit union and has loyal partnerships with area schools and hospitals. So, when we saw the wide range of hardships caused by COVID-19 affecting our community, we asked ourselves, how can WE help? The Mainstreet Credit Union Emergency Assistance Program was developed to support frontline workers in health and education.
In total, $46,000 was disbursed among 13 school districts and two hospitals. Mainstreet learned that relief was greatly appreciated and supported individuals in life changing ways such as: gift cards for food, past due rent, utilities in danger of being turned off, and paid for a hotel room for one homeless teacher and her two children living in their car. One hospital used the funds to construct a much-needed respite and prayer room, so that exhausted nurses and doctors would have a comforting place to rest and recharge. Being in the right place at the right time - made a world of difference for this educator! Mainstreet’s efforts are the very definition of “People Helping People.”
