Credit Union Staff Helps Build Habitat for Humanity Home
July 26, 2013
Making a habitat house a home takes a family. Building a habitat house takes a lot of hard work and the help of a community.
Moose Jaws fourth Habitat for Humanity house is in full build mode with the home's first blitz build taking place Monday.
Hoping to get the house's four outside walls framed and in place by the end of day, 15 members of the Conexus Credit Union staff headed to the Ominica East location and put in a hard days work.
Jennifer Dominguez, co-chairwoman for the habitat organization, said she couldnt be happier with the way the day was going.
"Everyone is doing a great job today and having a lot of fun."
Dominguez said although this is the first blitz build for this house, she said it doesnt have to be the only one.
"Any organization or company can organize a blitz build. All you need is 12 to 15 volunteers and a day they can dedicate to the house."
She said hard hats and steel toed boots are provided and skill is not required.
"Most of the people we have out volunteering today have zero experience or skill, which is what is great about this cause you dont need it."
Dominguez said everything anyone needs to know to volunteer is taught on sight.
For those who would like to volunteer on a smaller scale, on a regular build day Dominguez said individuals can either volunteer by themselves or with up to four of their friends.
"This really is something anyone can do. All we need is for people to book a day when they would like to come out and ensure they can dedicate their time from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We really do try to make this a lot of fun and provide snacks and lunch for our volunteers."
Thus far Dominguez said they havent had an empty day and is hoping to keep that trend alive.
