Hilo, HI. (November 15, 2024) – The need
to rescue and rehome dogs across Hawai’i island continues to increase, as well
as the financial challenges that come with caring for the island’s loyal
companions.
Aloha ‘Ilio Rescue (AIR), a 501(c)3
Nonprofit community dog rescue, is dedicated to rescuing dogs on the Big Island
and providing the best quality of life for those in their care. They are also
committed to not only finding good homes but finding good people who will
welcome the dogs into their family. This year, HFS Federal Credit Union’s
annual fundraiser was in support of this impressive organization.
Throughout the month of October, monetary donations were collected
at six branch locations. Thanks to the generosity and support of its members
and individuals in the community, the amount collected was the highest in credit
union annual fundraising history.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our members in
raising funds to assist Aloha ‘Ilio Rescue to carry out their mission. They
play a vital role in providing necessary care for dogs in transition to their
permanent homes. We’re honored that we were able to support their efforts.”
Nathan N. Abe, President/CEO, HFS Federal Credit Union.
A
check in the amount of $37,300 was presented to Aloha ‘Ilio Rescue’s President/Founder
Daylynn Kyles.
"I wanted to do something that made a
difference to our island community and its animals. My motivation is to
stop the overpopulation and euthanasia of homeless dogs. I want to bring
awareness and education to our community and change the issues that have been
overlooked for far too long. While dogs are in our care we promise to give them
the best possible experience here, always treat them with compassion, insure a
clean healthy space and daily exercise while making sure we always remember to
serve our community with Aloha.” Daylynn Kyles, President/Founder, Aloha ‘Ilio
Rescue.
HFS considers it
an honor and a privilege to support great organizations, like Aloha ‘Ilio
Rescue, that provides much needed services to the community. It is because of
support from their members and community partners for over 87 years that HFS continues

in 1937, HFS started with very humble beginnings. The Credit Union continued to
grow from serving just employees of the Federal and Territorial Governments in
the County of Hawai‘i and their families, to now offering membership to any
person who lives, works, or attends school on Hawai’i Island.
