The community lunch will be supported by Goodwill EasterSeals, Food For The Journey, Miami Valley Meals, Access to Excess, and NCCJ who will be providing the location for the lunch, making the meals, providing to-go boxes for community members to take home, providing groceries at a grab and go table, and providing educational resources that address food insecurity, respectively. WPCU is acting as the organizing body of the event, helping bring together organizations that share WPCUs passion for helping people through life.
We know that food insecurity occurs year-round. We hope this day serves to educate people about the harsh reality of food insecurity and offer some relief at the same time.
Ivy Glover, Director of Social Impact at WPCU
“September is Hunger Action Month. This event is meant to both provide resources to members of the community and bring awareness to the growing number of local families who experience food insecurity,” comments Ivy Glover, Director of Social Impact at WPCU.
According to a 2023 survey performed by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, more than 80% of people utilizing emergency food services did so because of rising food costs. WPCU recognizes the financial strain of rising costs that drives many Ohioans to turn to emergency food services.
By including educational resources at this event, WPCU hopes to increase awareness about food insecurity and equip community members with resources that will aid them in overcoming it.
